About the Club

Apple Valley Debate Club gives young people in Winchester and Frederick County a free place to practice debate, think critically, and become more confident public speakers. Meetings are welcoming and open to every experience level.

AVDC was founded on June 3, 2026 by a recently-graduated high school student. There are no fees and no barriers to entry; we run on donations and volunteer effort to keep it that way.

What We Do

Here's what a typical Friday looks like for us:

A Typical Session

Each meeting includes a structured debate on a topic previously chosen by the club. The club's Vice-President is responsible for moderating debate and deciding the winning team.

Switching Sides

In every debate, members take turns defending each position — not just the one they agree with. It sharpens reasoning and builds a real understanding of opposing viewpoints.

Who Can Join

Open to anyone ages 15–35. No experience required — just bring your curiosity and willingness to learn.
